The 2021 John & Abigail Adams Benefit will take place virtually on March 19th, honoring the late Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants. Tune in for an evening celebrating a pillar of the Massachusetts legal community and to learn more about the Boston Bar Foundation mission and our dedication to supporting those most in need in Boston. This year, support of legal services is more important than ever, and we hope you’ll join in support of the crucial work being done in our community.
2021 Public Service Award Recipient
Chief Justice Ralph Gants
The Boston Bar Foundation (BBF) is proud to announce that the late Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants has been posthumously awarded its 2021 Public Service Award for his profound legacy and lifelong dedication to equal justice for all. His wife, Professor Debbie Ramirez, will be accepting the award on his behalf.
At the time of his passing, we invited members of the legal community to share reflections and words of remembrances in honor of the late Chief. The Boston Bar Journal Board of Editors also led the effort to publish a special edition of the Boston Bar Journal to reflect on the Chief’s work and legacy. In this Special Edition of the Boston Bar Journal, the BBA was honored to publish “Creating Courts Where All Are Truly Equal,” an essay the late Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants was working on at the time of his passing.
As the current Justices of the SJC notes in the introduction to the piece, “it was his last act on behalf of the people of Massachusetts.”
We invite you to read both our collection of remembrances and the BBJ edition below.
