Casino Night for Summer Jobs

About

Thank you for attending Casino Night!

Thank you for joining us for the 7th Annual Casino Night for Summer Jobs fundraiser. 200 people were on hand to 'bet the house' on the next generation of Boston's workforce!

A great time was had by all - eating, drinking, playing games and catching up with friends - all to support jobs for our city's deserving high school students. Check out photos from the event!

Between sponsors, ticket sales and our silent auction the BBF raised over $45,000 last night to support the BBA Summer Jobs program, and put 10 students to work this summer!

Meet Summer Jobs Alumni

Beatriz, a rising junior at West Roxbury Academy, was one of the youngest students in the Summer Jobs program.  She spent her summer working at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and went on to take on a part time job as a file clerk at an area law firm during the school year.  Beatriz even gave a presentation at the end of the summer to her fellow students on what she had learned through the Financial Literacy Program about the importance of saving for college and making smart decisions about her finances.

Ben, a senior at Boston Latin, spent his summer working at the Suffolk County DA's Office.  “I spend about half my day inside the actual courtroom helping wherever I’m needed,” Ben said of his job at the Court. “I saw three full trials, bail hearings and civic disputes. I’ve wanted to be a lawyer for a couple of years but haven’t had the chance to see them in action, being in the actual courtroom was the best part (of my experience).”

Esther Huynh, a junior at Boston Latin, was hired as a Summer Jobs student at the Federal District Court.   While the Summer Jobs program provides unique hands on experience for area students, as well as summer employment, it also gives these students a chance to think about their future. As Esther explains, “at sixteen, I wouldn’t know what lawyers do -- being here allows me to see it first-hand, and also explore what I want to do later in life as well.”
